Old Pallavaram is a municipal town located in the southern suburbs of Chennai, the capital city of the state of Tamil Nadu. The older name of Pallavaram was Pallavapuram and has its origins from the Pallava Settlement of the Pallava Era. Pallavaram is known to have an ancient history and a major excavation was done in 1864 by the British Archaeologist Robert Bruce Foote when he found a stone implement of the Paleolithic age from a ballast pit. The place is known to be inhabited from the Paleolithic age and so has a long history.

Now Pallavaram belongs to the Tambaram Taluk of the Kancheepuram district of the state Tamil Nadu. Now Pallavaram has both Cantonement and residential areas. Pallavaram is well connected to the city through buses and trains. The suburban line of the Railways which runs from Chennai Beach to Tambaram runs through Pallavaram. The GST / Grand South Trunk Road that connects other south indian states to Chennai runs through Pallavaram.
