Till this day, the idol lies in its original place, that is, in the well from beneath it had sprung. The waters of the holy well never dry up, thus signifying the immortality of the Divine Power. 1. An unbelievable truth about the divine image of Lord Vinayak of Kanipakam is that the idol is reportedly growing in size with the passage of time. Currently, only the knees and abdomen of the idol are visible. The testimony to the fact is the silver kavacham (armour) offered to the idol by one of the ardent devotees about fifty years ago, which does not fit the idol today!
2. The self-manifested idol of Ganpati of Kanipakam is the lord of justice himself. Interestingly, several people have been visiting the temple since a long time to resolve mutual strife by taking a dip in the sacred waters of the temple tank and swear before the idol of the deity. There have been cases when the sinner accepts his faults immediately after taking the holy dip and even before stepping into the “court of justice” or the inner chambers of the temple. Such is the power of Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka and his glory is worthy of being sung in every corner of the globe.
3. Another interesting aspect of Kanipakam is the Bahuda River, which flows near the Sri Varsiddhi Vinayaka Temple. Long ago, as a story goes, there were two brothers Sankha and Likhita. One day, they started for a pilgrimage to Kanipakam. Due to the arduous journey, Likhita gave in to hunger. He ignored the advice of his elder sibling and plucked a mango for his meal from the nearby mangrove without the permission of its owner.
Duty-bound to tell the truth, Sankha reported the issue to the king of that place and asked for a punishment befitting Likhita’s sin committed during the pilgrimage. The ruler chopped off both the arms of Likhita as a punishment. When the two brothers reached Kanipakam and took a dip in its sacred waters an amazing miracle happened. To the astonishment of two brothers, the chopped arms of Likhita were restored. Inside Temple
There are the inner, front and the great pavilions from the Sanctum Sanctorum. The deity can be viewed only from the narrow inner pavilion a Mushika or rat-carrier of the God faces the deity. The idols of Vinayaka and Kumara Swami are visible on either side of the front pavilion. Siva’s carrier Nandi- a bull is there by the side of Mushika. A wall is built around the temple.

There are 2 temples here which belong to the Chola perios. One is Manikantheswara temple (Manivandeeswaram) which was built by Kullottunga Chola 3 in 1116 A.D. and the temple of Varadaraja also said to be built in this period. But there is no sasana about the temple of Vinayaka.

History behind the Idol of Vinayaka
Kani means change land or a measure of land.The story goes that there were 3 brothers in this Village.One of them was blind, one was dumb and another was deaf.They had a measure of land. They lived on agriculture. They dug a well, drew water with the help of an etam or lift.
On one such operation they found that the water in the well got dried up and they could no longer continue their job. One of them got into the well and started digging it up.
